Gabiones

Gabiones are simple wire boxes (generally galvanised wire) which  can be carefully located and thern filled with heavy stones and rocks. The idea ir to hold the water long enough for any silt to droip. The water itself filters through the rocks and continues on its way, only much cleaner.

Gabiones are traditionally used by engineers in large constructions, bridges , roadworks etc. However they can be simply made from chicken-wire and filled with local stone.
